Flame 2023 will be the fifth Flame Congress, and the first since the pandemic. Now, in a time where much in Catholic Youth Ministry needs rebuilding, with a generation who have never been to any large scale events, we are designing Flame 2023 to be part of a “narrative of hope” for young people, and for those accompanying them.
The 2023 Flame theme, “Rise up!” reflects this hope – a time to stand up again, together, to find fresh strength, to help others to rise up, and to use the energy, gifts, talents and zest of young people in new ways. All of this is wrapped in faith – in August 2023 Pope Francis will gather with hundreds of thousands of young people for World Youth Day, in Lisbon, and the theme there is the verse from Luke’s Gospel: “Mary arose and left with haste (Lk 1:38).“ Our theme is consciously linked to this. As Flame will take place at the beginning of Lent, there will also be a natural sense of looking towards the Resurrection as the definitive sign of hope.
